The day after the pub crawl, way to go KC and BE SOMEBODY!

Ever feel like you just don't wanna? If you say no, I'm calling you out. Now.

Because today - I just didn't wanna. Not after yesterday.

Yesterday I lead two teams of 12 through the Kansas City Crawl for Cancer Pub Crawl. This was no small feat. It actually took a couple months of planning - and corralling 24 people together during that time while keeping everyone's information straight, money figured out, sponsorships going, etc. was not easy. But - we did it and had a great time. Of course, this meant lots of free beer and a few shots. I actually had my first Irish Car Bomb yesterday. And, I loved it.

Here's a picture of our two teams - Slur For The Cure and Fear The Beer'd:

But drinking all day and part of the night? Wow. I haven't done that for a long time. And my body reminded me last night of the fact that I've not participated quite so "much" in awhile. I was tired by 9 p.m. - asleep for a couple of hours - and then wide awake at 11 p.m. and up until 3 a.m.

This morning? My head told my body that it didn't want to ride. Nope. Not gonna happen. You're too tired. You should just rest and let your body get back to a somewhat normal state today due to all of the alcohol you ingested yesterday.

But you know what? My heart said NO. STOP. You know you want to do this. Shut up head. Desire outweighs tired. No excuses. You've got to ride today.

Why? Because, this morning, as I was having coffee before church, I stumbled upon this video on YouTube.

Oh yeah. See? Called me right out. There's no way I'm not riding today. I have to BE SOMEBODY!

What great motivation to just get me jumpstarted.

I had a full day today, though, so riding had to wait until tonight after my Spring Beach Volleyball League play.

Y'all - I never get tired of seeing this bike:

It was already getting dark by the time volleyball was done - so I had to settle for riding inside tonight on the trainer. I know, I know…BORING!

I decided to mix it up a bit tonight. Since I don't know how fast or how far I'm going yet, I decided to just do some interval work with my stopwatch on my phone. I don't know if I'm doing it right or not - but for now, it will do because I'm riding and it's all good.

18 minute warm up - I basically just rode at a fairly quick pace while listening to some Michael Jackson. I don't think I'll ever get tired of listening to him.

5 minutes later? Balls to the wall. I rode as fast and hard as I could for five straight minutes. Talk about some serious sweat pouring down my face. WOW! At this point, my legs were SCREAMING at me. My upper thighs were burning and my calf muscles felt super, super tight.

Almost 4 minutes of returning to a medium pace after that 5 minutes of hell and then another 1:33 minutes of pure torture. I felt it in my back and my core muscles in my stomach.

This has got to be what a spin class feels like. (I don't think I'll ever take one of those classes though - because I really don't want some instructor screaming at me while I'm tryin' to do my thing).

I finished with a 3 minute cool down. Sure, it wasn't a long time to log on the bike tonight - but it was tougher to do tonight's ride than Friday's on the trainer. Friday's was basically one pace and tonight's was varied - with some real testing of my perseverance. (Couple that with the fact that I had some serious beer calories that I needed to work off). There wasn't anybody to hold me accountable for pushing myself tonight - except for me. Push it girl. Feel that burn. You may not like it, but you need it. GET IT.

So, nothing too exciting to report tonight. But I rode - and that's the point.

One more thing…and this has me super excited. WAY TO GO KANSAS CITY!

Yesterday morning, I saw this rack outside the Sprint Center. (I've actually seen a couple of others around downtown and have vaguely heard what's going on before now - but I didn't research it until tonight after my ride).

Kansas City now has bike rentals for its citizens that stretches from the Downtown River Market area to Crown Center. BikeWalkKC is responsible for this AWESOMENESS and Blue Cross Blue Shield (one of my companies) is a major sponsor. It's a bike-sharing program aimed at a more healthy lifestyle and I couldn't be happier.

Here's the link to the article I found: http://www.kansascity.com/2012/01/26/3394083/bike-rentals-coming-to-downtown.html.

There's also more information at bikesharekc.com as well.

So kids, that's it for today. I'm gonna take my burning thighs and shut myself down for the night.

Happy Cycling!
